Volume

Volume

I am a 31 year old healthy male. I was on zoloft for anxiety/sleep issues for about 18 months.  And have been zoloft free for 90 days and feel great. I have noticed over the past two years that the volume of my ejaculate seems lower than it once was.  I have read that arousal level can affect this, plus there are a few medical conditions that could cause this also.    When I ended the zoloft I had a full physical and everything was perfect.  I am able to get erections and orgasm, much easier now that I am off the zolfot, but the ejaculate volume seems to still be a bit low.  The volume concern seem to occur in the months preceding the start of the zoloft, so I don't know that I can point to the zoloft as the issue.  By my best guess, I am at the very low end of the normal volume range, based on what I have read, which is technically normal, but its half of what it use to be.  My arousal level seems ok, but could be stronger.  I am single and not dating anyone currently, but looking.

I work alot and need to work out more, be more active, but I do watch what I eat, so I am not heavy.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

thanks,
Gave

Yes.

Why are you obsessing about something so unimportant? You're having orgasms, and I presume you're enjoying your sexuality, so why look for something to worry about? If and when you decide to become a parent, volume isn't important either. In fact, your semen can contain the same amount of sperm now that it did when you produced more ejaculate.

I think you're worried because you've heard myths that somehow volume is associated either with pleasure or with some aspect of "manliness." Nothing could be further from the truth.

You'll find that volume ebbs and flows during your life--just as erections go up and down, especially as you age.

And if you're not getting as turned on as you used to, look at your anxiety and stress level, fatique, whether you're interested in your partner, etc. These can all contribute to a lessening of desire. And remember that desire also goes up and down, depending on other circumstances in your life. Get experimental. Find some new things that might turn you on and try them out. The main thing is to stop worrying and enjoy your life. Dr. J
