Hello.

In most cases, having a foreskin that doesn't retract should not cause any problems for you unless it's causing pain. Until the age of 10 years or so, only about half of all uncircumcised boys can retract their foreskins. This figure goes up as men approach adulthood; however, some men reach adulthood with a non-retractile foreskin with no problems at all.

Other men, however, may want to make their foreskin retractable. The foreskin can be made retractable by: manual stretching, and/or application of topical steroid ointment (provided by a physician). If you decide to try manual stretching, remember that stimulation can irritate unless you use lots of lubrication. Dr. J

Hi, my foreskin is shedding daily, I find that I have to wash it 2-3 times a day. It sometimes get so dry that it shrink, and when I have an erection is hurts when I try to pull the foreskin back. The tip of my penis feels tight. I saw a documentary that said if it is untreated the penis can shrink or worst. What's wrong with me and is there any treatment for this? Please Help...

Washing it so often will dry it out,  especially if you use soap. Any aggressive cleaning could be irritating the skin at the tip, so go easy on it for a while. Your penis won't shrink.

When you say shedding, do you mean on the inside or outside? It's normal for dead skin on the inside to build up with the moisture under the foreskin; you can rinse it out every now and then with plain water. Just be careful about pulling it back too far - if the tip is too tight, there are simple stretching exercises that can loosen it.
