I’ve never done this before but I’m feeling desperate.  Over the last three years it’s been more and more difficult for me to get an erection.  When I do get it, I’m so nervous and afraid of losing it that I end up losing it.  I don’t know what I can do to stay calm.  Any ideas?

Anxiety and sex don't go well together but there's a good reason for this. When you get too anxious, the release of stress hormones constricts peripheral circulation so that blood can reach your vital organs (heart, lungs) more effectively. The penis is not a vital organ and the last thing you need when you're facing a dangerous situation (e.g. escaping a lion) is an erection! This is the infamous 'fight-or-flight-response'.

Here's what I suggest you to do:

a) First and foremost, go see a urologist. There may be some underlying organic cause that you're not aware of and even if this is 'just in the head' your doctor can help you and prescribe an effective treatment.

b) Try to learn as much as you can about ED in general and sexual performance anxiety in particular. Read books, surf the web, talk to experts. Knowledge is indeed power: the more you know about this problem, the less frightening it will be to you.

c) I'm also an anxious person and I always take SEREDYN 30 minutes before sex. SEREDYN is not an ED drug but it may be helpful: it is a natural supplement for the treatment of anxiety that increases dopamine levels and has no sexual side effects. You should, however, consult your doctor if you decide to give it a try.

d) Oral therapy is also very effective. I'm currently taking CIALIS and a new ED drug called VIGAMED (oral phentolamine) that blocks alpha receptors in the penis and inhibits the negative effects of stress hormones. Again, ask your doctor about these treatments.

I hope this helps. Good luck!
