AV Malformation in left leg

My step son is 5 years old and has been diagnosed with AV Malformation in his left leg. His knee swells to a large size and causes him alot of pain. It disables him for days at a time. I am having trouble finding resources on this subject. I would like to know if there are any treatments or any ideas that can help to alleviate his pain. He is suffering badly from it. Is there anyone here that has had experience with this? Please help us. He wants to play baseball, but it causes him alot of pain.

I'm 21 years old and was finally correctly diagnosed with an av malformation in my left leg at age 16 or 17, after being misdiagnosed for years as various conditions. It never caused me any pain, but my knee did swell, which eventually spread almost all the way up to my mid-thigh. For years, I had trouble finding doctors who would operate on it, since it is so rare. Finally, at age 19, I found a doctor at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida, who specialized in this sort of thing. In 3 weeks, I had 3 embolizations and 1 excision at Jackson. My 15 year old son was just diagnosed with an AV malformation in the back of his left thigh.  We have been referred to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore because there is a doctor there who's specialty is pediatric av malformations.  We are waiting to see her to get the indepth information regarding treatment options.
