Achilles problem

After a 10 mile run on March 7th I started to experience pain in my achilles area. I took a few days off running and ran only one day the next week. I supplemented spinning classes for my cardio. I had a indepth sports massage on the area. I also went to my podiatrist who confirmed that it was an achilles issue but not a severe one. I have a lift in the shoe where I am having this problem. The one issue that I am really concerned about is the creaking feeling I will feel when moving my foot. This feeling has improved but is still there. I understand why it is there, this is due to swelling on the tendon and the swollen tendon moving under the sheath. My question is this, how long does it typically take for this feeling to subside? I am not in any pain when I walk. I am able to go up and down stairs without issue. Am I safe to start running again, low miles? I was in the middle of a marathon training program when this occured. Any advise is welcomed. Thanks!

Hello -
Avid male runner I suffered from chronic bi-lateral Achilles tendonitis for years. At times during intense speed work and training it was difficult to walk up and down stairs.  After years of treatments by foot and ankle specialists, daily stretching, physical therapy, (you name it), etc. a chiropractor suggested oxygen treatments.  I was skeptical, I tried it, and in two weeks the pain was gone, and I continue to be pain free for this particular running related condition.  I was so convinced I went out a purchased my own oxygen machine.  In your case it may or may not help your particular problem, but it would be worth a try.

Hello,

You seem to be having the problem of Achilles tendonitis. Even in mild cases, it can take weeks to months of rest for the tendon to repair itself as the blood supply of this tendon is very poor. It’s important to be patient and not return too soon to sports and activities that stress the tendon.I would suggest rest, ice packs and anti inflammatory analgesics till it completely heals. Also when you start again, start after consulting a sports injury therapist as repeated injuries may cause it to become chronic in nature.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.
