Avoiding heat exhaustion

Avoiding heat exhaustion

Once a week I have to walk to pick up my son from kindergarten. His school is a mile away, mostly uphill. Lately it has been getting up to 100 degrees F, and the humidity is 60% or more.

I am worried about getting heat stroke while walking in this heat. He gets out of school at noon, so there is no shade. He sits in a stroller with a shade and ice water to keep him safe, but this means I am pushing an extra 50 lbs on the way back.

Does anyone have advice on how I can stay safe in this heat?

Dear Dizzydiz,

Hello!

This is a very important observation and you should take all safety measures.
Wearing of proper sunscreen is important while going out in sun, clothing should be protective and suitable,  also carry caps  and umbrellas to wade of the sun. Rehydrating yourself perfectly and  think if you can use a bicycle so that you will cut down the time exposed to sun and the risk of strokes.
As soon as you come home, have sufficient fluids, rest in shade and if required in Airconditioning for some time will help.

Take care!
