Can I do sit-ups or any ab workout with a hernia?

To any Dr,

I am a 25 yr old female and a year ago I had my second child.  A few months after that I had a tubal ligation and the Dr discovered a 2 in hole in my abdomen most likely from my c-section not healing correctly.  I went to a surgeon and he said he couldn't really feel it but that was typical of a c-section hernia.  I am due to have surgery in March.  After being told about my hernia I have been afraid to workout and gained 60 lbs.  I would like to get fit again and do crunches and pretty much everything else. I'm scared that I will make the hernia worse.  It doesn't stick out and only hurts when I lay a certain way.  Also after I do have surgery and have the mesh in how long do I need to wait to start working out again and will I damage the mesh?

thanks in advance,

Hello!

As you have incisional hernia it is important for you not to indulge in any activities which increase your abdominal pressure.

You should consider regular walking for long distances without putting any pressure on your abdomen till you are surgically corrected.

Plan a surgery and go ahead.

Take care!
