Chest injury from weight lifting

Chest injury from weight lifting

Hello,  on March 30th, I went to the gym to do chest after completing an intense push up workout about 4 hours earlier for police academy.  While at the gym, I was maxing out, benched 305 lbs barbell flat bench then moved on to dumbbell flat bench.  I did four sets, 90 lbs for 6, 100 lbs for 6, 110 lbs for 4, 120 lbs for 2 reps.  After doing the 120 lb dumbbells I had intense tightness located around my upper chest close to my neck and collarbone.  I thought it was just muscle tightness from the work out so I immediately stopped lifting and went home.  When I woke up the next day it felt kinda strange and I had trouble lifting my right arm up.  I was unable to even shoot a basketball with my right arm.  It felt kinda sore (not weight lifting type sore) and still felt really tight.  I did not go back to the gym for a week.  After a few days it felt normal again.  When I went back I attempted to max out again.  All my strength was still there but once I got to around 255 lbs on barbell flat bench it started to feel tight again.  I proceeded to lift up to 295 lbs and once I lifted that it felt like what happened the first time all over again.  Next morning I had the same symptoms.

I figured it was probably a strained pectoral muscle or something so decided to rest it for about 5 weeks before lifting again.  After about 3 weeks I re tweaked it from doing push ups in the police academy.  Same **** as before.  Academy is done now so now I am not exercising my muscles at all.  It has been three weeks and it started to feel fine, but now it starts to feel strange again.  I have not attempted lifting yet, but I am nervous I will get the same results and will not be able to lift heavy anymore.  What type of injury could this be?  Below are pictures of where the injury is located.

Due to the amount of workouts you have done the first time your upper body muscle near the neck got a little damaged. There might be some fibres at the insertion in the shoulder joint so when ever you are reaching that position you are causing this particular muscle sore.
You have to go for an orthopaedician visit and rest that muscle for couple of months, take some anti inflammatory drugs and do not strain more that what you can life.
After assessing the damage and after the scans everything will be clear.
Take care!
