Cramps/spazms when flexing/stretching

Cramps/spazms when flexing/stretching

Hi,

I've got a bit of a weird problem with a couple of little things relative to, I suppose, my muscles.

Firstly, when I flex my arm/biceps with too much force, my arm cramps for a couple of seconds. That's really all there is to it. I don't do much weight training at all - just a bit here and there. It didn't start happening around the time I started doing anything differently.

Secondly.. I do a good amount of martial arts. A lot of the specific art is kicks. Where I have a problem here is with my lower, outer hip area - when I raise either of my legs to the side (as in a slow side kick or a stretch), I get a relatively painful cramp in that area that forces me to lower the leg and goes away immediately after doing so. It's been that way since I started, a couple of years ago, so it doesn't seem like stretching is fixing it.

I'm a seventeen year old male - approx. 6' 2" and of an athletic build. Primary form of exercise is cycling (relatively long distance on road surfaces).

I'd appreciate any input or recommendations. Thanks in advance!

I have resently had the same problem but with a different muscle. I went and bought some potassium pills and so far it seems to be helping.
