Dizzy/light headed, shakes, weak, etc

Hi, I'm a 28 male & do regular exercise; so consider myself fit & healthy.  I'm sure my problem below is common (& hopefully not even a problem) but thought I'd check anyway!

I regularly cycle, run & do martial arts.  Sometimes, when doing heavy exercise, I feel dizzy, ill & get bad shakes especially in my hands (a bit like really bad pins & needles).  I also feel very weak &, strangely, my ears block up.  It a horrid feeling that lasts for about 15 - 20mins before I feel fine again to carry on.

I saw a doctor about 3 years ago & he told me to eat more sugar based foods before exercise.  But this doesn't always seem to help.

I do eat before workouts & drink a lot of water.  I believe my breathing to be controlled when exercising & I do plenty of stretching too.

Am I just pushing myself too hard?  Perhaps my diet is poor (I'm wondering whether I'm not eating enough as I'm slim).

Many thanks,
Mateus

Thanks for your reply.  I went to see my doctor the other week & he referred me to the hospital.  The hospital doctor looked at my breathing & stuck a camera up my nose (nice!) but couldn't find anything seriously wrong however he gave me a nasal spray to help clear my nose - made no difference.

I'm just going to try eating a Mars bar before exercise & see if that helps.  I've been eating a lot more recently (due to Christmas & I'm 13 stone) but still get light-headed, pins & needles (in my hands) & a blocked ear.  I'm also going to try drinking more - perhaps too many cups of tea during the day isn't helping!

Thanks,
Mateus

That is what I have and the doctors seem to think it was low blood sugar.  Sometimes I test low and sometimes I don't so I wonder if it is something totally different.  You might get a blood sugar monitor and check if you are low when you have those symptoms.
