Fast heart rate during exercise

Fast heart rate during exercise

I am 28 years old, 5'6'', 118 lbs, non-smoker, non -drinker, resting heart rate of 75ish.  I have done quite a bit of exercising in life.  I ran 3 marathons (within the past 9 years) and completed a half marathon 6 months ago.  I've tried to stay active since then (running, swimming, weights).  Lately I have been taking my pulse right after my workouts (40-60 minutes) and am usually in the 190 bpm range.  It really scares me because I understand it's harmful.  I'm able to hold conversations during my workouts but at the same time they're not "easy".  I am not very fast.  I run about 10-11 minute/mile.  I am frustrated because I want to improve my speed but don't want to push my heart any further.  Do I need to be concerned enough to get tested?  If so, what type of specialist should I see?  Do you have any workout tips for me so that I can progress without compromising my health?  Thank you!

I'm not a medical expert by any means, but (no offense) a resting heart rate of 75 sounds a bit higher than normal - that might be the problem here. That said, a slightly higher pulse isn't neccesarily a terrible thing: different people's bodies just work differently. However, if it feels uncomfortable you should definitely seek professional advice before pushing yourself any harder.

Good luck
