Flu-like after workout

I have been reading all of the questions and comments on feeling flu like after a workout...so happy I am not alone.  I was diagnosed with lupus approx 9 years ago and have been convinced this was the reason for my sickness after workout.  Now there is hope, maybe a probiotic will bring me back to being able to workout again.  I have been into fitness and eating healthy my entire life and live for it. After suffering with this problem of feeling sick, at 48 I just feel like it is no longer a battle I wish to fight anymore. This has given me hope! Thank you for sharing! Does anyone out there also have lupus as well as workout "sickness"

Hi there!

Well, flu like symptoms may occur after a work out in sensitive individuals and if one tends to have lupus, the sensitivity may further be increased. However this may not mean that it would become an unmanageable condition. To begin with I would suggest avoiding excessive workout that makes you breathless. Workout should be in a range that one feels comfortable in. Try working out in temperature controlled environments to avoid rapid warming or rapid cooling of the body. Try warm up and cool down exercises before a work out session. If the symptoms still remain uncontrolled, you may occasionally try some OTC anti-histaminic medications.
