High Heart Rate During Exercise

by Jump623, Feb 05, 2009 11:49PM
I am a 25 year old female, weigh 125, 5'3, low blood pressure. I consider myself to be in decent shape. I exercise 3-5 days a week, have ran a few half marathons and marathon last year. My resting HR is around 60, however my HR reaches 160-170 within running 1 mile at 5.8-6.0 mph (10:30-10 min pace). And on the second mile it reaches 175-180. If I continue to run it has reached 190-200 before. I regularly do strength training (about 2-3 times a week). I also have been trying to increase the incline at 2 min increments to see if it will help to strengthen my legs. I can't seem to figure out why I have such a high HR while exercising though. My family has no history of heart problems. Any suggestions?

What you are talking about is nothing to worry about. You are basically healthy and are able to train within your cardio HR zone which is 75-85% of your HRR, most people this could be conserning but if you are a highly trained athlete then you are well able to push your heart as your heart is a muscle just like the rest of your body. The one thing I would say is if you are trying to burn fat then SLOW DOWN as your HR should be 140-160 BPM.
