Hi there, I am 57 years old. I walk at least 3 1/2 miles a day many times more. Every other day I do an hour of weights (5) pounds for upper body. I am sure because of my age the weight is not coming off quickly. I have been really working on flabby arms, my muscles are developing nicely but the under flab is not moving. My meals are small and my snacks are fruits. I am on month two, how long before I see results.
I think fruit is highly overrated. It contains a lot of sugar...the only fruits I eat are berries.
I think a lower carb diet might be a nice compliment to the exercise. I don't mean eating a ton of cheese and cold cuts (as some people did when the Atkins low carb plan first became popular in the 1970's)...I'm talking about eating lean protein (fish, chicken, poultry) and lots of low-sugar veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, kale, brussel sprouts, etc.) plus nuts and seeds.
I'm very conflicted these days about grains. There are a lot of new articles coming out that grains are killing us...ALL grains. So you have to make your mind up about that one...there is a new book out called "Grain Brain" which is either a scare-tactic piece of propaganda or perhaps VERY important. (Let me know if you read it, and what you think.)
Do you drink soda? All carbonated beverages are bad for you, imo. I don't drink anything except water and herbal tea (high quality).
Good luck...REAL weight loss is incredibly slow and can take up to a year.
