Shop for healthy whole foods.  If manageable, reduce relying on processed,  convenience and junk foods and cook your own foods (that way, you control how much of which ingredients you're consuming).

Don't be scared of fat (we do need fat, recommendations for healthy amounts range that 10 to 30% of our calorie intake ought to be in the form of fat), but do try to avoid TRANS fat (a chemical, aka "modified" or "hydrogenated" this or that such as palm oil) and a typical component of many processed / convenience and junk foods (it's used instead of regular fat to increase the shelf life because it does not readily break down and become rancid, but that also means it does not readily break down in our bodies and may even be a strange enough chemical that it unsettles our metabolism).  A readily available fat that's seen as healthy is extra virgin Olive Oil.  Dairy foods containing fats consumed in moderation might be seen as reasonably safe.
