Knee pain

by Finalenigma, Sep 14, 2006 12:00AM
I'm 19 years old and I recently was discharged from the army, while i was there i injured my knee in a 10 mile march with a heavy pack.  this injury occured 2-3 months ago.  im not sure exactly what cause the injury though, its not as if i smashed my knee into anything it just started hurting during the march, and it was hurting pretty badly(worse than any sports injuries id ever had).  it happened at maybe the 8th mile and i didnt really have a choice so i went the last 2 anyway.  by the end of the march i couldnt even take full length steps, anything more than a half stride was just too much.  i was out in the field a few days after that and continued half running/half limping the best i could to keep up.  i didnt notice it the day it was injured but it doesnt seem to hold my weight the same way it used to.  if i am standing on just that leg and bend it even slightly it almost comepletely gives way.  i can stand stand like that some, but it feels like im using different muscles than with my other leg, and it hurts.  The same way it would if it was healthy and i was trying to push way too much weight on a workout machine with it.  walking on it doesnt hurt more than a little usually. unless i do it for an extended period of time(2 miles or so), then it will get pretty severe and will continue to ache for the rest of the day, including when i am putting no stress on it at all.  I just moved and since i just got discharged have no insurance and my discharge papers have not arrived with the rest of my stuff yet so i cant go to a VA hospital, any advice would be appreciated.
