Nausea while exercising

Hello- I'm a 31 year old female and have been mostly inactive with the exception of excercising spurts here and there. (exercising for a week then nothing for couple weeks)  I'm also pretty overweight at 210 lbs. standing 5'3".

I need to start up a regular exercise program, doc's orders. My problem is though that whenever I exercise even if it's just walking, my heart thumps really hard and loud and then I start feeling like I'm going to pass out, followed by nausea... sometimes vomitting.  

I've heard of hard core athletes having this problem from pushing themselves too hard.  But this happens to me with any exercise, even trying to walk a 20 minute mile.  

Any advice is welcome... please... I really don't want this to deter me from getting into a regular routine.  But so far this happens almost every time I exercise.

Are you doing a specific program that was designed for you?  Have you had an intense physical?

No I'm not doing a program designed for me.  I'm just working out to Prevention's walk at home dvd.  I also walk around the neighborhood and do beginning yoga at home.  

The yoga doesn't seem to bother me, it's only when I'm doing cardio of some sort.  I don't have any pain, just my heart thumps so loud and hard I can barely hear anything else and then I start feeling like I'm going to pass out and then the nausea. Sometimes I actually do vomit but not always.

Then afterwards, after I calm down, I always feel beat and under the weather.

I would keep going with the yoga. But I think you should have a serious talk with your doctor about your symptoms.  AFter he or she has cleared you to exercise, meet with a trainer and have them set you up on a plan.  They are expensive, but one session will get you started.

I have a dear friend who was 5'3" and 260 pounds.  she is now 130 and has been for about 3 years.  Her plan was no eating after supper, no soda and she worked out everyday.  Her entire family is obese.  She inspires me to keep going on my program.  Good luck and good for you for wanting to lose the weight.

Definitely keep up with the yoga!  Yoga is not only relaxing, but great for building strength and flexibility.  You can also lose weight.  You may want to stick with only that for awhile until you build up some endurance.  Then, try building up to other things that are more strenuous, is you'd like.  Personally, I attend a yoga class twice a week and do a lot of walking.  I feel I am healthier doing that, then when I used to do circuit training.

You should be examined by your physician due to the symptoms.  Not because you may have a chronic illness; you should speak to your doctor about proper eating habits, excercise regimen that is right for you, ect.  

Your symptoms may be attributed to poor nutritional intake.  If you aren't taking in enough calories, (cutting down too much), or enough nutrients in your diet (essential vitamins) then you will experience such symptoms.  Poor dieting and vitamin deficiency will also lead to extreme fatigue.

The only time I ever got nautious while exercising is when I was pregnant and didn't know it. I would be huffing and puffing away on the bike or the treadmill and get lightheaded and nautious and sometimes vomit and couldn't figure out what was going on. Once I realized I was pregnant, I still exercised, I just didn't push myself very hard.
Just a possibility!

Hi,
I had the same problem of naseau, "hearing loss", pass out feeling, etc. for many years.  

When I had the first symptoms I thought it was becuase I was pushing myself too hard ( I was really fit back then).

Ten years later, and out of shape, I had the same problems.  I was defineitly not doing that much exercise and did not think I could be THAT out of shape.

Well, a trainer suggested that I might be slightly hypoglycemic because I was working out in the morning.
I did not really believe him but thought that I would try anything.  So I took a couple of sips of gatorade that they sold and voila!!!  I was completely better.

So, if I work out in the morning I make sure to have at least a cup of juice or milk or even some gatorade.  

You did not say when you worked out or if you eat before you work out, but I would definitely try this and see if it is your problem.
