Pulled muscle in thigh or something more serious?

I work with kids and earlier in the week (about Tuesday) I went down a kid's slide a few times, which meant I had to squat when I got to the bottom so I could get back up. It also including climbing up a bit of a hill to get to the slide and I had to climb up some steps. The next day, my right leg started hurting a bit, like I had pulled a muscle. It wasn't too bad but the day after that (which was Friday) it hurt a bit more. It mostly hurt whenever I had to get up from a sitting position but also when I was walking. On Friday night, I massaged it a bit, hoping it would feel better by the next day.

During the night, my leg hurt even more and it was painful to move in bed. I had difficulty getting up out of bed and it really hurt to walk. My partner gave me a massage and that seemed to help a bit and loosened up some tight muscles. The pain got worse as the day went on but every couple of hours, my partner massaged my leg and it felt a bit better each time. I was hoping it would feel much better the next day but it didn't.

So today is Sunday and my leg does feel slightly better, after some more massage and stretching but it still hurts to walk around and whenever I get up from a setting position. I've got a sharp pain from the top of my thigh that goes down to my knee that I can't seem to pinpoint where it's coming from. I need to go to work tomorrow and I feel silly ringing in sick just because I pulled a muscle. Which is why I'm wondering if this is something worse than just a simple pulled muscle?? I didn't feel or hear anything go pop after going down the slide and my leg didn't start hurting until a couple of days after 'the slide' incident. But I'm worried that it might be something worse that needs medical attention. I've used heat packs, ice packs and taken over the counter medication - ibuprofen at first and then today I've taken a few doses of aspalgin (aspirin and codeine) which seemed to help more than ibuprofen.

Anyone got any ideas/advice ion want to do?

Muscle strains respond well to rest, ice, compression and elevation immediately following strain-related injury.

Also, I know this is a fitness and exercise forum but I couldn't find anywhere else to post my question. Plus my injury seemed to fit in with this forum.
