Shin Splint?

by PibbleNibbles, Mar 21, 2008 11:30AM
For the last few weeks my right shin has been giving me grief.  It is to the point now that my whole lower leg hurts and cant walk without limping.  I "googled" shin splints and it did sound similar to my situation and have done what it suggested as much as possible....other than the resting part.  That is not possible at this time!!!!!

I work at a ammo factory and right now we have someone off with back surgery.  We are short staffed and cant even take hrs off much less a week or weeks until his return in mid April or possibly mid May.  I am on my feet 12 hrs walking in steel toed boots that are REQUIRED.  I do have insoles in them.  I have worked the same job for 7 yrs and have never had a problem foot/leg related.  3 yrs ago I started a workout of walking to loose weight.  I lost all the weight and then some and never had any problem or injury durring it.  Over the last yr my workout is next to nothing but have maintained the weight loss.  My job is a workout.

I dont understand how I would get shin splints now and never got them then.  I know I need to go to the dr and will when I can but till then is there anyone with advise?  Right now, at its worst, my lower leg hurts from the back of my knee down.  There is swelling and it is warm some times.

Thanks

Hi,

The symptoms you describe could be caused by "Shin Splints". As you must be already aware, these pains are caused usually by muscle fatigue/injury in the muscles around the lower part of the leg. This is caused by over work/ incorrect postures and angles while running or working.

The treatment usually requires Bes rest and pain killers with cold compresses.

A visit to the doctor is imperative and you should not delay it any longer, lest this may become complicated further.

Hope this helped. Let me know if this answered your query or if you have any other queries.

Best regards.
