The joint cracking is actually a benign condition and is thought to be a result of any of several causes. One of these is the accumulation of gases around the joint causing tiny gas bubbles which result in joint cracking when they are released.
Another probable cause are tendons and ligaments crossing over the joints and these may crack as they snap over the joint's bony prominences.
