Swollen, sore foot

Hello,

I did some searching but couldn't come up with anything that fit what I was looking for.

I am pretty heavy, yet in pretty good shape, considering.

I have taken up walking as my choice of excercise. I usually go anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the night.
Back in early April, I started to notice that my right foot was becoming swollen, and my running shoe was hardly fitting.  I decided to take a break from the walks and let it heal.  A couple of weeks passed, and it was still the same.  My regular, casual shoes will fit fine,  but my runners are VERY tight on that side.
It has been nearly two months now, and I still have some pain while walking, sleeping, and it is still a little swollen, but not nearly as bad.

What should I do about this? It's seriously impeding my walking. I would go see my regular doctor, but he is sometimes very unhelpful with things like this.

Any thoughts are appreciated

Hello!

Swollen both feet signify some heart problems, kidney problems or liver problems.

Get yourself screened for kidney function tests, liver functions tests and also assess your cardiac functions.

If a single foot is swollen it can be a peripheral vascular disease, injury, ligament tear or stress fracture.

Keep your affected foot elevated on a pillow when you sleep and try to limit weight bearing till properly diagnosed and cured. Follow up with an orthopedician and get referred to the specialization you would need for further probing.

Take care!

Hello!

Water retention due to cardiac problems or kidneys should affect both feet.

If it is one foot then it may be that your veins are not able to empty its blood efficiently for whatever reason or it can be lymphatic obstruction or some local problem.

It can also be infection like cellulitis if you have pain and inflammation.

Get yourself examined.

Take care!

Hello, thank you for the replies.

Water retention should affect both feet, should it not?   And is there any pain to that?

This is only one foot.

Dr Vinod, thank you for the input.  I will try elevating while I sleep, as it seems to bother me most at night.

Swollen feet usually mean water retention.  You should have it checked out.  Last year I had water retention- both feet and legs, and was hospitalized with congestive heart failure due to it.
