Taking Fosamax

Taking Fosamax

I started taking Fosamax  two weeks ago after beind diagnosed with osteoporosis and was told that I have to take it when I am up for the day. Do not eat or take medications or lay down for 30 minutes after taking the medication. It was explained to me that the reason for this is that Fosamax will cause acid reflux or something like that if I do not follow directions to the letter. My question is...can I exercise after taking the fosamax. I am getting a new treadmill for home use and was hoping to be able to spend that 30 minute waiting period walking on my treadmill but want to make sure that this will not cause any irritation from the medicine.

Normally the whole issue is you should not allow anything by which you increase your gastric acid secretion. While exercising you would not increase your gastric acid secretion so you can take your alendronate sodium dose, but start the exercise slowly on the treadmill letting the drug absorb in the first 15minutes. Take care!
