Tea for HBP

Tea for HBP

I am in the process of weaning myself slowly off of beta blocker-altenolol, was only taking it for 2 weeks.  Among the comments there was a mention of a tea that  might lower blood pressure--what is it?

Hello!

Drinking as little as a half-cup of green or oolong tea per day may lower the risk of high blood pressure by nearly 50% but this cannot cure blood pressure.

But some studies negate this conclusion; there is no proper clinical research published material by the companies selling these products.

Methylxanthines are present in tea and by direct cardiac stimulation these can increase BP, methylxanthines also can dilate blood vessels which can decrease BP. Usually a rise in systolic and fall in diastolic BP is observed.

Monitor your blood pressure, cut down salt, drinks lots of water, maintain a normal BMI and keep all indicators in normal range in your lipid profile.

Follow up with your physician.

Take care!

Studies have shown that drinking hibiscus tea can effectively lower high blood pressure and reduce high cholesterol levels in many individuals!  Read an article about it in the February 1, 2009 issue of Internal Medicine News.
