To grow tall

To grow tall

Iam 17 years old . But Iam too short (159cms).I want to grow taller( atleast 170 cms) .My friends suggested that it is only because of genes for me too be short. Ofcourse my Father is short(157 cms). But someothers said that as my uncle is tall enough (175 cms) , there are chances for me to grow . Are they correct? .Please help me to grow taller .

Hi,
First thing first you need not be overtly concerned about you being short. All best things in the world come in small packages, so are you. Hence you are a special person send by God on this earth.
Well your friends are right in saying that you are short because your father is short.
I want to know what your mother’s height is.
Add your father’s height and mother’s height and then add 13 to it and divide this by 2. Your target height would be +/- 10cms of this value.
You also ask regarding your chances to grow taller, I think you have come to maturity stage, and growth in height will be very slow from now on.
There are people who grow up to the age of 25 also.
I think you can consult an endocrinologist preferably Pediatric to advice you regarding growth hormone management.
Growth hormone supplementation would help you in gaining some height, but as you have reached post-puberty gaining more height is limited.
Hope this helps you.
Bye.

Hi,

Height is determined in a big way by genetics and the interplay of hormones as well as the diet one has. Therefore, while a good balanced diet is most essential, over supply of one nutrient may not be the best way to increase your height.

On the other hand, physical exercise may stimulate your body to work extra hard and therefore 'compensate' for any decrease in the rate of growth. Cycling, swimming and other aerobic exercises are usually recommended.

You may find more information at: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_height

Let me know if you need more help.

Best regards

Hi,

Height is a genetic trait. Although eating a well balanced meal and some exercises like swimming can help you gain may be a few inches. Please do not opt for any hormonal treatment as they have a lot of sideffects, what matters the most is a healthy body.

You can still grow in next couple of years. You are advised to do some exercises like skipping, cycling and stretching likes pulls ups. Have balanced diet and protein rich diet with enough calcium. Take care!
