Trying to get stamina back

by DebM412, May 02, 2007 12:00AM
Up to a month ago I was in very good shape, ran on the treadmill every day 40-50 minutes and lifted weights 2X per week. Then I came down with the flu from my husband and was sick for 2+ weeks. I then went on vacation and am now back and started my routine again. Now, I do not have the same stamina I had before. I am lifting about the same in weights but the cardio is very hard. I am feeling that I am having to stop at times where I was able to keep running before. Is this normal? How long until I should be back to where I was?

Thanks in advance,

Debbie

After a month pr more of vacation, your strength do gradually decline.  You have to adjust first before getting back or increasing your poundage.  Your body has adopted into the new environment in has been into.  So all you can is to begin training again with a weight your strenght can handle.  It may be 20% lighter then the first but this is how you can avoid certain injuries.  ! month or even weeks can come, then you can see some improvement not only in your strength but also in your stamina as well.  I myself before can incline dumbbell press 80 pounds but after a year of absence all i can lift was 25s and believe me it made wanna puke.  lol.  So funny, but our has great way of adopting into almost everything.  About your cardio, why dont you try 10 minute cardio, then after 2 or 3 weeks increase by 10 minutes as your endurance increase.  But im not good with the cardio thing i have a very high metabolism that cardio isnt so necessary.  good luck.  and Keep Pumping.  =)

The flu can be very hard to get over and kill the stamina. Just bare with your body and it will come back. Just don't give up.

Last year I had the flu, was sick for 2.5 weeks and it took me about a month to really START to feel normal again. Good luck

that's normal. remeber, mines an 80 dumbbell press that went down to a very had 25s.   so that's a 55 difference there.  =)

ok first off...to freakin natural, if you take a year off..or even 3 months off..thats enough time to loose all the muscle gain you ever had from weight training weather it be 20 or "55" lbs.
And to Debbie. Whenever you get a cold or flu its very important NOT to start back up with the same intensity and frequency as you did before you got sick. This can acually prolong your sickness. After you feel beter give yourself a week of easy runs before you blast yourself up to the top again. Then when you feel comftorable get right back on your 40-50 minute runs daily. You may start out at a slower pace but you will move up fairly quick. ;)
