Weight lifting and BP

by jesussavedme, Jul 28, 2006 12:00AM
Does weight lifting raise bp for a long period of time or just temporarily? I have anxiety that causes my bp to rise, but now I have been reading that lifting will make it rise as well. Now Should I wait to be anxiety/stress free to lift? Doesn't weight lifting help reduce stress?  I am afraid to lift. If anyone can offer any insight, please do.

regular strength training raises blood pressure during the actual act of lifting but helps to lower blood pressure overall (resting bp).

Generally, you see a drop in blood pressure about 5-10 minutes after cardiovascular exercise and about 30 minutes following strength training.
