Weight loss

by Kezcharlie, Apr 11, 2006 12:00AM
I have a main goal of weight loss that I have had for two years. I have concentrated on it every day through diet and exercise. My problem is my weight, 10 stone 6 (i'm 5' 7'' dress size 10) has not moved. I am a fitness instructor so understand what I am doing but am desperate as I have tried every option. I have been exercising 6 days a week, 2-4 hrs a day and training hard, cv and weights. I do the 5 meals a day approach and nutritionally am very strict, with only one treat binge a week working on a 90-10% wk, sometimes a 80-20%. The constant plateau is awful, I constantly change my routine, have tried every nutrtion option, supplement etc and my exercise volume just creeps up in desperation and leaves me exhausted. It ruins my life, controls what I do every day, stops me doing things etc and all in a bid to loose a stone or dropp one dress size. That is all I am trying to achieve but I just don't seem able to achieve even a couple of pounds. I reached this weight/size and have stuck. I am the same dress size as friends but one and a half stone heavier, I use the muscle weighing more excuse? Lastly I have just had breast enlargement surgery and am now petrified of what will happen as I am not allowed to train, any ideas?

You may be overexercising. When this happens your body will hoard any caloires you take in and turn them into fat so you don't need to burn away any muscle tissue. Too much of anything is bad for you even things which are good for you. Try to only exercise 45 minutes a day and make sure to throw in weights at least 3 times a week.

But remember that less is more.

It sounds like you are doing everything correct.  Genetics play a huge role in the way our bodies develop, process calories, and distribute weight.  You may unfortunately be fighting genetics.

You should also evaluate your calorie consumption.  Try consuming the majority of your calories (especially carbohydrates) earlier in the day or directly after working out.  Some other things you might consider:  You might look at the types of calories that you are consuming:  carbs vs. protein vs. fats.  Are there other things in your diet or lifestyle that can be eliminated?  (alcohol?)  Are you getting enough sleep?  Are you exercising primarily in the mornings or at night?  What types of exercises do your workouts consist of?

If you are fully convinced that you are doing everything correctly, you may consider being evaluated for a metabolic or thyroid disorder of some sort.
