What is it that is hurting me?

I have recently joined a gym, I am overweight but I have no problem exercising. I go on the treadmill for 40min, then 1 hour of spinning and sometimes another hour of toning. The only problem I get is when I am doing crunches. There is a pain in the middle of my chest, right under my breast bone and it feels like a pulled muscle. I usually have to roll over on my stomache to stretch it out and it feels like it goes back in its place or something. I had my gallbladder removed over a year ago and one of the small incisions is very close to this area. What is it that is hurting me and how can I fix it? Does it have something to do with my surgery from last year?

The surgical scar tissue would always be stiff, so you have to learn a mechanism not to stretch it . You have to try and do what is comfortable to you and do not stretch unduely.

The abdominal muscles take time, as you were overweight and lot of fat might have accumulated here. Also remember to do these crunches on alternate days so that your muscles get enough rest.

You recently joined and are already doing 3hrs of Gym. I think you are stretching yourself and for 3hrs of Gym you would need more rest and if you are working then decrease the amount of time you are putting in Gym. Gradually it should increase. Take care!
