I developed a stress fractureFractures across a growth plate in my hipHip joint replacement Hip pain last year when I was training to do a marathon. I was on crutches for a few weeks and eventually it appeared to heal. I started slowly - walking then gradually increasing running and always taking at least one day off in between. I wanted to run a marathon again, but after one day of running 8 miles, the pain returned. Not as bad since I knew I needed to rest it after that. I haven't run since but tried walking the other day after about 2 weeks of being pain free. It started hurting again. Am I ever going to run again? Do I need to do something different? I thought after healing it would be stronger.
Bones take 6 to 8 weeks to heal. You probably need to just figure two months of light activity. If I were you I would buy a really good treadmill that has lots of cushioning. I know it isn't has fun as being outdoors but the cushioning would help the stress and it would keep you in aerobic fitness. Also you can increase the slope so you can walk and not have to run.
I can't say you will run marathons again, but the fact that you got a stress fracture could be a sign of overtraining.
