muscle pull

muscle pull

Hi
I spoke to my OBGYN on the phone about my problem, and was told that I had a pulled muscle. The muscle is in the groin area. I was also told by my OBGYN that it should get better if I rest. I have an appointment to get a pelvis x ray to rule out arthritis. MY question is will this pelvis x ray also show if I  have a pulled muscle ? What is the treatment for a pulled muscle ? How long  will it  take to get better?  I am 70 years of age, with no other health problems, and do not take any perception med. Thanks so mush for any information you can give me.

Hi,

How are you?
It is very important to rest after a painful injury for the injury to heal properly. Gentle stretching will also help. Alternate ice and heat therapy where ice helps to reduce the muscle spasm and heat increases the blood flow is often prescribed.
If the pain is unbearable OTC pain killers will help. Physical therapy is indicated where these do not help.
The rate recovery will depend on the extent of injury and the amount of rest.
