pain while doing bicep preacher curl

I would like to know how severe a bicep problem can be. I was doing sitting preacher curls when on the second rep of my second set, I felt a ripping, tingling pain in my left bicep towards the lower part of the bicep near the elbow. I don't see any bruising at this time, nor do I see any swelling or change in the bicep. Could this be a slight tear in the bicep, or just a bad strain, and if so, what can I do for it and how long do you think it will take for the healing process. I am currently icing it and taking ibuprofen for it. Thank you for your swift response.  Raybo

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,this can happen sometimes due to overstretching of a muscle or tendon also called as sprain or a strain. You have done right by applying ice and taking painkillers for this. You can also apply compression bandage to it. I hope this will heal in few days. These then you may refrain from doing this exercise. good luck

Hey guys - before I forget, another possible explanation could be that you're experiencing a Repetitive Stress or Strain Injury, or tendonitis.  In those instances, there won't be any visible bruising, but the muscle will begin to cause pain if subjected to repeated use.  The best defense against RST or tendonitis is rest, but again, check with a health care professional as soon as possible.  Take care

This details bicep injuries - you guys may have experienced a bicep tear near the elbow.  However, since you've indicated that there isn't any visible bruising, it's hard to say what this could be.  I'm not a doctor, and my best suggestion is to see an MD before getting back tot gym.  Take care

I have had the same problem for about 3 months now. Mine is most painful during Hammer Curls. Although it is painful to pick up my kids or anything else over 30 lbs.   Did you ever get a doctor's perspective on rehab or other treatments? Thanks,
