NO, it is not okay to run.  Running, even on soft surfaces is considered high impact.  You can try doing some power walking instead.  If done correctly, power walking can give you a better workout than running.  It is a good aerobic exercise and will increase your fat loss.  It is good for the heart and lungs and easy on the joints of the knees and ankles.  There are lots of groups around, like the Mall Walkers, who will show you how to power walk correctly (it's free).  Good luck
