I bought a FitBit counter, it comes with a website that tallies your different types of movement and monitors your sleep patterns. There are others; most smartphones will have aps that will do the same thing. I just happen to like the FitBit. (it tells me I have taken over 4 million steps since I started and 7,117 floors).
Buy a pedometer about $5.00 at any drug store or sports shop. you clip it onto your belt or waist band and start walking. google pedometer!
