weigth training and blood glucose level

I am 48 years old, 6'3", and 225 lbs.  I have just recently been diagnosed as a borderline diabetic (12 hour fast 114 and A1C 6.1%).  For the last 4 years I have been lifting weights and trying to following a low carb diet plan.  My day starts out at 0400 when I hit the gym for my workout.  At this time in the morning my BGL is usually 103-113.  After my workout my BGL is about 15-20 points higher.  Is this normal??

Yes. The body will release lactose (which is a form of sugar as I'm sure you know) while you workout, especially if you haven't eaten anything beforehand. Afterwards this sugar is still in your blood and can be detected for up to an hour post workout.

Good on ya' for all your hard work! Keep it up!

Yes thats true. Sometimes blood sugars go up with exercise, especially after strenous exercise. This may happen because you are excited and are releasing a hormone called adrenaline. This is a normal response in people with or without diabetes. The adrenaline causes sugar to be released from stores in the muscle and liver and raises the blood sugar for awhile. This usually happens in the first hour of exercise an later the blood glucose lowers after prolonged exercise.
