workout for 80yrs old

I am 80 yrs old. There are the following issues with me.
Tinitus(30yrs), hypothyroidism 30 yrs, gastrointestinal problem, mild hypertension. insomnia. I am under medical treatment and I do yoga, exercise, and some alternative therapies. I desire to do exercises and yoga in a scientific manner. May I get guidance for general health or as a preventive measure. I take medice for hypothyroidism,blood pressure and sleeping pills and I do meditation, yoga. I want to evolve well balanced workout for keeping overall good health. thanks.

Hi there!

Age is not essentially a factor in deciding the workout of an individual, though physical morbidities may limit ones ability for a complete physical workout; since excessive physical workout, unlike that in the younger years; may aggravate the degenerative processes in the joints. Though hypothyroidism is associated with some amount of myopathy in some individuals; since you have not mentioned any rheumatological, ortho or neuro-muscular condition, I assume you are otherwise fit. Going by these, there should no limitation to exercises but I would still suggest a general evaluation by a primary care physician to look for any undiagnosed joint degenerations that may limit ones physical activity. If this comes out clear, you can work out normally. Though there is no specific routine that may need to be followed, but it is advised to rotate between various activities like cardio workouts, aerobics, yoga, running, weights, biking, swimming etc., for uniform toning of the body. Aside exercises, it is also advised to maintain a healthy lifestyle and intake a healthy balanced diet with adequate amounts of carbohydrates, proteins, fat and plenty of fruits an vegetables, aside the medications advised by your doctors. Certain food groups like cabbage may need to be avoided for conditions like hypothyroidism, while others like pomegranate may be beneficial for hypertension. You may like to consult a nutritionist for the same.

Thank you for your quick and comprehensive response. I forgot to mention the sensation of tightness in feet. Two doctors labeled it as parasthesia, pathology of which is not known. In foot clinic, Dr. mention it Myopathy. This is since last 7 yrs. Nerological physical examination shows normal reflexes.Initially there were pulsation  in the inner end of urethra for three days, then heaviness in both the legs for 3 days and finally sensation tightness. which is continuing till date.There is no pain. By researching on Vajrasan, I find that It may be one of the causes. used to do vajrasan for 10 to 15 minutes with vayu mudra after each meals. Now i have reduced to 2   or three minutes.
