Post stomach surgery questions (dog)

Hello, our 11 year old longhair dachshund ended up with aspiration pneumonia one week ago. ER Xrays also indicated a possible foreign body in the stomach. After 12 hrs, he was not responding to Oxygen & medication treatment and new Xrays indicated that the mass in his stomach had moved and was surrounded by a gas bubble. Faced with putting him down or going after the foreign mass - we elected to go for it knowing the risks. Mass ended up being a very large calcified hairball that had adhered to the lining of his stomach. 12 hrs later he started to respond w/ 90% improvement in his lungs. After a week of nasal tube oxygen, plasma IV, Baytril, and several other stomach drugs... he has yet to have any interest in food. We are currently force feeding an A/D slurry orally, but are very concerned with the lack of appetite. How long is too long, given he IS getting some nourishment?  Secondly; he seems to have developed an occasional shiver/shudder... any input would be appreciated.
