12 yr. old second retina detachment

My 12 yr. old son has severe macular degeneration. His 1st. retina detachment was oct. 2004 surgery was buckle. His 2nd. detachment was feb.2005 surgery silicone oil. The oil was only partially removed on July 18. They had inserted two different types of oil 1000 & 5000. The 1000 strength was removed however the 5000 was left for fear of scratching his lens. He also had a cataract removed with the removal of the oil on the 18 of JUly. He now 2 wks. postop is experiencing the color of yellow throughout the entire field of vision with the oil. Which has some how moved from the bottom of vision upwards thru the center of vision. He had the yellow the first day after surgery then it went away, now 2 wks after it has returned only more so than before. My question is why this is happening and how long will it remain?

WE HAVE JUST RETURNED FROM THE DOCTORS OFFICE, ONLY TO FIND THAT THE RETINA HAS DETACHED AGAIN... THE REASON BEING SO WE ARE TOLD IS THAT THE EYE DROP PREDNIZONE WHICH IS COMMONLY PRESCRIBED AFTER SURGERY FORCED THE EYE TO HEAL TOO QUICKLY AND FORMED SCAR TISSUE, WHICH IN TURN DETACHED THE RETINA AGAIN. WE HAD GONE TO ANOTHER RETINA SPECIALIST WHOM REMOVED THE OIL AND DID A CATARACT SURGERY AS WELL . HE TOLD US TO PUT THE PREDNIZONE IN THE EYE EVERY HOUR. WITH OUR PREVIOUS SURGERIES THIS HAD ONLY BEEN DONE FOUR TIMES A DAY. THE EYE WAS FORCED TO HEAL TOO QUICKLY AND IN TURN DETACHED THE RETINA LEAVING SCAR TISSUE BEHIND THE RETINA. SO WE HAVE HAD YET ANOTHER SURGERY (5) IN 8 MONTHES TO PUT THE OIL BACK INTO THE EYE. ANY ONE HAVING ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS PLEASE GO AND GET A SECOND OPINION AS IT MIGHT SAVE YOUR VISION. BUT DO IT QUICKLY.

Hi neesee this is visionquest. Thank you for your response. I have a few questions for you. One.  Was your son able to see out of the eye right after his surgery? Because it took me almost 6 weeks before I was able to see out of my eye. I am so sorry that your 12 yr. old soon is going through all this. Is he on any medication for ADDHD? Reason I ask is because up untill my surgery I was taking a very low dose of adderall (adderrall) for ADD. I'm 54 years old and had been taking it for about 1 year. This caused severe bleeding during my surgery. My doctor said he could'nt understand why I was bleeding so much because my blood pressure was fine. Said he had to have the anathegeoligest (sp) take me down much lover to slow the bleeding down. It wasn't untill about 3 weeks after that I thought that maybe the adderall (adderrall) might of had something to do with all the bleeding so I asked my doctor and he said that would cause that kind of a problem. Also, I has to take the ( Prednisolone Acetate Ophthalmic Suspension USP ) drops in my eye 4 times a day. I looked at what the purpose was for this medication and it said that it was to slow the healing down so it won't heal to fast. By the way in my other eye I had several holes and tears in the retina and it took 3 laser surgerys to take care of that problem. I hope this will help. Do check on the eye drops that your son was taking because I have been told that there is more than one type of prednisolone.
