6yr old pupils are always dialated

by MIller Family, May 22, 2007 12:00AM
Our son seems to always have dialated pupils, no matter what time of day or what how bright the light....what may cause this?

by Forum-OD-MP, May 22, 2007 12:00AM
extra innervation to the pupil 'dilator' musculature is the most likely cause.  especially if they are always the same size as each other and still 'react' (get smaller) when bright light is shown onto them.

some people just have large pupils all the time.  it certainly doesnt mean there is anything wrong.

have him seen by an optometrist to make sure he has normal pupillary reactions, but this is not a cause for alarm, as long as both pupils are the same size.
