Acute Retinal Necrosis

by pulsey, Jun 10, 2006 12:00AM
I am male, 66, good health and have been diagnosed with "Acute Retinal Necrosis" in my left eye. In just 10-days my vision has dropped from 20/20 to 20/600 with hundreds of floaters in both eye.  My right eye is normal, but also has hundres of giant floaters.  I am taking IV treatments 3 x daily with an antiviral medication, steroids in the eye, eye drops to reduce eye pressure.  After my 35th treatment I will start on antiviral by mouth 800 mg 5 x daily.
Does this disease cause loss of vision?  How do I deal with the hundreds of floaters?  Is there a training exercise to block the floaters out of my visual path?

I am seeing on the best retinal specialists in the country.  Is there anything else I can do?

no training excercise.  yes, you are doing all you can do.  "necrosis" means tissue death, so you should probably assume you are going to have some amount of permanent vision loss.  how much depends on how bad your case is....
