Allergic Reaction to Puncta Plugs

Allergic Reaction to Puncta Plugs

My doctor put some temporary puncta plugs in my eyes on Thursday to help with the dryness and the redness I was having.  I had a bad allergic reaction to these plugs and both of my eyelids have become red and swollen.  My eyes are now white but the lids are raw and tender.  I couldn't stop rubbing them yesterday.  I have to go to work tomorrow.  Is there some over the counter thing I could use to help the redness and swelling?

no.  no over-the-counter thing that would help.

tell your eye doc.

I had sore, much worsened dry eyes after temporary punctal plugs, which I thought was an allergic reaction, but it may have been a reaction to the eye drops I was using.  If you use drops with sodium carboxymethylcellulose (Refresh Plus, Thera tears and many others) the reaction may be do to them.  When I switched to the plain Refresh it improved a lot.

I found out the allergic reaction was to my eyedrops tobradex.  It's either that my eyes stay red or get swollen with the eye drops.  I can't use tobradex, is there another antibiotic eye drop that I could use?
