Amblyopia and reading speed

by soccerkid, Nov 27, 2006 12:00AM
I have read a lot about amblyopia being the cause for slower reading speeds in children. Since my daughter has amblyopia in her right eye I am wondering if I can get a formal opinion on the matter. If it does in fact cause children to read slower she would probably qualify for extra time on her SATs.

hmm.  dont know.  i have amblyopia in my right eye and i am an exceptionally speedy reader.  i dont think there are any "formal" opinions on this.  i think you could probably find opinions both ways, depending on who you ask.  i dont know of any studies on this...there could be some for all i know, but i have not heard of them.

You may want to seek a visual therapy consult with your eye doctor and see if your daughter could gain from performing ocular exercises.
