Astigmatism correction post cataract surgery

1.  I had scleral buckle surgery following detached retina 2 years ago.
2.  Cataract surgery in the last 2 months:  ReZoom in the eye with scleral buckle, and ReStor in the dominant eye.
3.  My astigmatism (in the eye with scleral buckle) is quite bad with minor astigmatism in the dominant eye.
4.  My doctor wants to "tweak" both eyes to get rid of the astigmatism. My evaluation is in 2 weeks.

Does anyone have experience with a situation such as this? I am new to this forum and have found your comments to be very helpful.

Well, I am basically in the same boat as you, having gotten a ReStor implant in one eye and a ReZoom in the other recently.  I'm not completely satistfied with the results yet but am due to have Lasik surgery to correct astigmatism this March.  My doctor recommended that I wait at least three month after lens replacement before having the Lasik.  He believes that the Lasik will resolve the problems I'm currently having with less than perfect vision at all distances.  I haven't had serious problems with halos, but have been experiencing a little ghosting ( ie., seeing a gold ring on occasion) with the Rezoom eye,  I'll let you know how it works out for me.  It would be great to hear from others in the forum who already have had both procedures.

I have opinions on this because I have a scleral buckle on my right (for detachment, 1998), had cataract surgery and lens implant on that eye in 2000, and last week had cataract surgery in my left (good) eye.  And, oh yes....I have 2 diopter astygmatisms -- and my right with the buckle (also with vitrectromy because the buckle didn't accomplish what it was supposed to...yes, two detachments within 10 days...) has poor, wavy, and out of alignment vision (surgeon's work accounts for the now off-center eye)

   My new mono focal implant is very good so far -- I see better than with a soft contact before my surgery -- and there is NO WAY I'd let anyone touch or modify my cornea so that I don't have to later use glasses or a contact.  I'll live with the astygmatism and correction later on.  I've experienced too too much in way of eye issues.  The I will do is be fit for a custom soft toric lens for my left eye vision (last week's IOL).

   Finally -- I am so glad that I decided (after much thought) to go basic with the IOL -- no fancy multi or toric IOL that could create more complications for me -- esp. the toric, because cataract surgeons have essentially no experience emplacing these.

Your history sounds about the same as mine. I will be having relaxing incisions the first part of February to correct my astigmatism hopefully. If that doesn't work I'm going with Lasik. I imagine I will always have glares and halos with these lens implants though.
My left eye is Crystalens(2 months ago), and my right eye is Verisyse (2 months ago).
I've had scleral buckling on the left eye also 8 years ago.
End of February I'll post with results.

The January insert of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today (www.crstoday.com) describes the use of CK for astigmatism correction.  CK is a noninvasive, quick, in-office procedure using sound waves.  According to the article, CK is much safer than LASIK (actually CK is described as being virtually risk-free.)  I've read elsewhere, though, that the results of CK (as well as other methods of correcting astigmatism) may regress over time--I don't know whether this happens in most cases.  The professional literature describes excellent results from all methods of astigmatism correction post cataract surgery.
