Blunt trauma after hit by stone

by Fayz, Oct 23, 2005 12:00AM
Good evening to you,
My right eye has been hit by a stone five weeks back which I believe some teenager's decided to use a air gun to through the stone.
(1)My vission is blurry at open eye but my vision is 6/9 + 1 when I look through the pinhole. Does it mean that my open eye vision can be corrected to as good as the pinhole vision?
(2)It has left me with a tramatic cataract.
And (3)The pressure of my eye has been the constant problem since the injury. Currently I am Having Diamox tablets four times a day, Steroid drop for the inflamation (inflammation), Mydrilate Drops and Xalatan drops. My eye pressure is still between 27-30.
Do I have to have a Shunt tube and Cataract operation to recover? How do I get my vision back to the pinhole vision when I am looking openly? How succesfull are these operations?

wow.  i feel bad for you.

1) yes, in theory whatever you can see thru a pinhole, you SHOULD be able to get with some form of vision correction (glasses, contacts, etc)...although with trauma you never know b/c you may have something like irregular astigmatism and not be a great candidate for the rigid lens used to corrct it

2) traumatic cat...sorry!  again, i feel bad for you.  you'll need an operation to remove it most likely

3) if you are still in the 30's and you are medicated with THAT many thing,s you most likely need surgery.  they are for the most part fairly successful.  you cant be in the 30's, thats pretty much universally acknowledged as being too high.

Hi my boyfriend is a roofer and a nail bounced off the roof and into his eye.  He pulled it out and went to the ER  the er doctor
had to call a specialist in  They did one surgery and now they want to do another. The Specialist said he will lose the iris of his eye !  What does that mean, what color will his eye be and will he lose his vision  The docter didnt tell him what his eye will be like or  look like after the surgery.  He didnt ask and I wasnt there.  He has a traumtic caturac and its going to be re moved when the iris is removed. Should we get another opinion? This was 1 and 1/2 weeks ago and his next surgery is 1 week from today 11-2-05  should he have had surgery before all this time or what? We are concerned

Unfortunately, I had a trauma which removed part of my iris. The iris is like a disc that sits over the top of the pupil (sort of) so when the iris is removed, what is left is a larger vision of the pupil. Ergo, the "color" of his eye will be black; with no iris, he will simply have a big, huge pupil. It will most likely be very light-sensitive, but I was told by my doc. that there are contacts that they can make to replicate the iris; except the hole in the center of the iris on the contact won't dilate or constrict with different light levels.

Good luck.
