people who have cataract surgery are at risk for macular problems anyway (CME = cystoid macular edema).  i guess knowing you already have a kind of fragile macula may have made him a littl gunshy.  i would be as well.

Hi - I have developed cataracts in both eyes, one worse than the other.  Due to extreme myopia (-14) I have some macular holes which have left scars.  What are the risks in cataract surgery given my existing condition.  Is the cataract surgery too risky ?  My retinal specialist was pretty uncommunicative on the subject.  The upside is not having to wear contact lenses, thereby reducing one problem with my eyes.  I am only 37.  Thanks.

it depends on the extent of your problem and the surgeon of course, but i would think cataract extraction wouldnt bee too complicated in a case like yours
