Cause of burning eye sensation?

by hopeasilma7, Feb 13, 2007 12:00AM
Hello,

I am a 25 yr old female, who runs 4-5 miles 5 days a week, doesnt smoke at all, and eat fairly healthy most of the time. I have the past months or so had occasional burning eyes sensation, usually after having coffee with sugar or in general sugary foods, like cookies. Though those times are few enough for me to have noticed the symptoms being related to very sugary foods only. Many people usually comment on my eyes being red when I feel them burning.

Should the eye burning sensation be anything to be concerned about?

Eye sunburn occurred to me but i always wear sunglasses outside when i run...but thats just a guess :)

Thanks!!!

the burning is probably not related to anything you eat.  it is not 'eye sunburn'.  solar keratitis is painful and debilitating, not a 'burning' sensation.

the classic symptom of blepharitis or tear film deficiency is 'burning'.  also many patients with dry eye complain that it 'burns'.

this is most likely not serious.  and not related to sugary foods.
