Causes of Hypermetropia

Causes of Hypermetropia

As per previous we have a child who has high long sight, the other two children similar although, so far, not so seriously so.

I can't understand where such high plus perscriptions at such young ages originates from, although I am long sighted, much less so than the children. No long sight in wife's family and only my sister in mine who is +5 at 52.

In the UK Dr. Marcus Pembrey has advanced data supporting the idea that  environmental factors play a part, in fathers this is thought to be factors at play during pubity. It is an unsettling thought.

Do you have any handle on what can cause hypermetropia to emerge with such vengence please?

While I appreciate that you are not a specialist in genes you come acoss severe hypermetrpia and may know of reserch/thinking in this area.

if environmental factors play a part, i dont know if thats been proven yet.

the traditional school of thought says that the 2 main causes of hyperopia/hypermetropia are:

1) overall eye SIZE (small=hypermetropic)
2) corneal shape (flat = hypermetropic)

BOTH of those are genetic factors.  if you and the mother have "small eyes" or "flat corneas" or both, then it is likely that your children will also inherit those traits.
