Considering enucleation

Considering enucleation

I have neovascular glaucoma as a result of a central retinal vein occlusion.  The eye is blind.  I have had surgery with a tube implant about 18 months ago.  The neovascularization has continued and my anterior chamber has become so shallow that the tube is being pinched.  On Cosopt bid, I am free of pain.  I am considering enucleation if another procedure is needed.  How long would I wear a bandage and how long before--say--a temporary prosthesis could be inserted.  Would I have a long period before regaining a normal appearance.

varies by patient.  but a decent guesstimate is 6 weeks-ish before a prosthesis could be fitted after enucleation...

I had mine fitted 8 weeks after the surgery.  I have a hydroxyapatite implan with a plastic peg and acrylic prosthesis - done 15 years ago. My implant took 2 years to finally settle down, and during that time I had to keep having the prosthesis adjusted.  My prosthesis looks good now but is always either dry, oozing gunk, or itching, and stays infected more often than not.  If the pain of my blind eye had not been unbearable, I would be seriously regretting enucleation.  If it were only a matter of appearance, I could have tried to go with a scleral shell.
