Contact Problems

by kp25_08, Aug 27, 2005 12:00AM
I have been wearing glasses for about 3 years now and I am tired of them and I went to my eye doctor and asked if I could try some contacts... I have been trying to put them in my eye for three days now and I am having absolutely no luck what so ever...is there anything that I can do?

Hi KP,
What kind of problems are you having? What kind of contacts did you get? What do you use to clean the lenses?
I do not have contacts but I bought them for my kids since they were preteens until they got out of high school. Now their in their 20's and buy their own. Anyway, I've had some experience helping them with their lenses. Maybe I can offer some advice.

Go back to the provider who prescribed them and have them work with you until you can do it alone.  This is usually covered in the whole contact lens exam price.  I went over and over and made them change brands a bunch of times til I found a lens I could work with and that was comfortable to wear.  Took a good 2 months!

It can be tricky.  Are you sure they aren't inside out?  If they are, you might be either having irritation or can actually blink them out.  What brand and type are they?  Toric lenses for astigmatism really don't like being inside out and you may blink them right out especially easily.

Put one on your fingertip and look at it from the side.  It should look like a bowl.  If the edges flare outwards, it is probably inside out.

In any case, go back to your provider and let them see what you are doing and give more specific advice.

Good luck!
