Thank you for your concern and information. When I was diagnosed 4 1/2 years ago with Graves disease I was extrememly hyperthyroid and put on Tapezole. Recently I was taken off of Tapezole because of other symptoms I had and my thyroid tests have been normal so far. The eye inflammation, double vision and bulging first started in 1997 and I was given steroids. Now over the course of almsot 10 years I have had the eye problem sevral times and every time my ophthalmologist says its orbital pseuotumor and prescribes steriods which does help. Since I have developed so many other neuro. type problems over the past year, I wonder if it is all related? Ophthalmologist and Endocrinologist both concur that eye inflammtion is not from Graves??!!
Hi Duchess,
You say you have Graves & your thyroid lab is normal. Have they tested your TSI antibodies (thyroid stimulating immuniglobblins) lately. You can have normal labs with high antibodies. You can also be erythroid (have normal thyroid labs) & have active Graves Eye Disease.
I am also a Graves pt. with Graves eye disease. My thyroid labs are normal but my antibodies are still in the active range.
It would probably benefit you to see an opthalmologist. (Eye MD) for a check up & also get your TSI antibodies checked.
What type of treatment did you have for your Graves during the hyperactive phase? I-131 (ablation) radiation treatment is known to cause GED. You can also get GO if you go hypo on anti-thyroid meds. Best wishes & God Bless, Jean
Actually there are numerous articles related to false diagnosis at this web site below. I found it going into the one above. It's from the National Institute of Health.

Sorry I don't mean to be a nuisance, I just thought this was worth your seeing. Jean
I also have GED in both eyes but the Rt. eye is far more affected than the Lt., so yes it can affect only one. My Rt.is also bulging & I have alot of conjestion in behind, beneath, & above my eye socket. My Lt.eye is just a little puffy w/ only slight bulging right now.

hmmm. possible some or all of those symptoms are related to one disorder... going to be difficult to prove one way or the other.
