Degenerative Myopia with inflamation(inflammation) on left eye with pupil problems

by RomanNY32, May 20, 2006 12:00AM
I am 26 year old female, I have Degenerative myopia since birth. My RX is very high. But have never had any problems with vision or eye health, until a week ago. During a regular day at work my students where telling my eye was getting red. I didnt feel to much discomfort but rubbed a little- by the end of the day I couldnt wear my contacts any longer (on my left eye), my co worker said that my eye looked glassy and my pupil was huge. I tought maybe pink eye, since I work with young kids. The next day I ended up in the hospital. I was having light sensitivity, my head hurt, my eye felt greaty, swollen- it hurt, red, I was loosing my balance. At the hospital they said I had inflamation (inflammation). But said nothing about my pupil. They gave me two drops, Cyclopentolate and Econopred. The redness and greatyness has subsitted after a week of treatment- but I still have the light sensitivity, feeling out of balance and a haze over the top part of my eye. What could this be? what does this mean for me? I was unable to work, go outside to the grocery or even take my kids to school. Its hard to even sit here typing this out, any suggestions please! I also have a rash on my chest, shoulders and back, on and off on my face. One doctor mentioned the possibility a long time ago of lupus- but never did anything about it. I have no family history- and this rash started after my 1st pregnancy 6 years ago. Could there be any connections or complications for me- I dont want to go blind!

you need further testing.  you need to go to an eye doctor...an ophthalmologist or optometrist.  since you are still light sensitive and have vision problems, there is still something wrong. probably iritis or keratitis related to your contact lens wear.  it can be serious, so you need to go as soon as possible.  preferably dont go back to the hospital.  make an appointment at an actual eye doctor's office.

yes, it is possible that your eye problem is related to some systemic disorder like lupus.  but it is more probable IMO that it is related to your contact lens wear.  regardless, you need to go in asap.
